Limewire, tactics and booze

Well, trying the new version of Limewire wasn’t exactly a great success, though it wasn’t exactly Limewire’s fault; halfway through downloading some stuff (a Kylie remix, if you must mock) I ran out of disc space. A little box pops up with a “Sort This Out Now You Idiot”, but of course Limewire keeps on downloading and fubars the whole machine. Then I restart, empty six and a half gigs out of the Trash, and reload Limewire – it hits one of the files it half downloaded and promptly fubars the machine again.

This isn’t what I use OS X for – applications aren’t supposed to be able to just take down the entire OS when they feel like it. So I’m back to lovely Acquisition, only for those unreleased Kylie remixes, you understand. Except now, ugh, every time I launch Acquisition and it looks for networks, it seems to entirely knock out my connection and I have to log on to my own WLAN again. Should never have downloaded that Apple Airport update. Maybe I should get the latest version.

At least all this reminded me to do some backups.

Ooh. Lightning. Some way away.

Other thoughts this evening apart from “yes, Limewire still sucks” include

  • While you may have criticisms of the US Army’s use of force as “not proportionate and… over-responsive to the threat they are facing”, the number one method of making sure people don’t shoot at you is not to invade and occupy their country. Remember that “hearts and minds” was basically a cynical rebranding joke.
  • I have been drinking quite heavily since I returned from England (after having been drinking at a reasonable level while I was there). Not at an insane level, you understand, there have been times in my life where I’ve drunk more for longer, but enough to make me feel like crap, sleep badly and generally make me more miserable than I am usually. I have recently stopped doing this. I feel rather… odd, and flat, and uninspired by anything, though I was going that way beforehand. I did clean the fucking kitchen though.
  • More lightning… I’d say eight to ten miles away.
  • This new version of Acquisition seems to be working, thank gawd.
  • No, I have no idea what all that crap in the Trash was.
  • Vague notion of recording the Bush press conference and pissing about with it on iMovie, but apart from the lack of inspiration as mentioned above it doesn’t seem to be live on network TV, with the Gilmore Girls, Navy NCIS and American Idol being more important. I can’t say that I blame the networks for this; it’s not like there’s going to be any actual news there, or anyone asking difficult questions, it’s a press release, and we have enough of them already. This one just happens to have the President in it.
